Volunteering

Volunteering is a great way to gain new skills, meet new people and grow as an individual.

Volunteering gives you the opportunity to learn new skills and gain up-to-date experience, which may help you get into paid work, another industry or completely different job.

One of the jobs I was successful in obtaining was due to the experience I had gained while volunteering.  I spent 6 years as a volunteer with the Auckland Volunteer Centre within the events area and also with Rally NZ, the Farmers Santa Parade and the Special Olympics.  The skills and experience I gained over this period gave me the confidence to apply for and get offered a paid events role during the America's Cup in Auckland in 2002/03.

Also as a volunteer with Lifeline Auckland I met some really interesting and inspiring people and attended many training seminars which still add value in my work today.
