3 Tips for Working in a Challenging Job Market |
|
Based on interviews with Tracy Keith on Newstalk 1ZB in 2009 To follow are 3 tips for working in a challenging job market: - Have a planned approach
- Look sharp! - A CV that shines
- Showcase your talents
1. Have a planned approach Have a plan - know what your next career step is, and the one after that Be targeted in your approach - only apply for roles you actually want Look in your own backyard first Find a mentor.
2. Look sharp! – A CV that shines Ensure your CV is succinct, specific, accurate and sings your praises Include areas where you have exceeded expectations and contributed to the wider organisation – projects, social club, sports teams etc Volunteer work – be specific about the skills you were using (e.g. leadership, accounting, counselling etc).
3. Showcase your talents Be specific when talking about the results you have achieved Provide tangible evidence to back up what you have said in your CV and back up past performance claims In an interview don’t be afraid to tell the panel what your learning’s were, what you are proud of or what you would do differently next time Network with the people who have influence.
